Product Usage

  • For support, please visit the CatBird Studios Support Forums.
  • All morphs must be injected prior to using Alexa or applying third party products that do not include injection files.
  • To fit original Alexa clothing items to Alexa 2, select the Alexa 2 body and apply the A2 to A1 Full Body Morph before applying clothing. Some experimentation may be required on third party items that have not been updated.
  • The clothing figures are super conforming, i.e., employ cross-talk, so make sure you select the Alexa figure first before adding the clothing. Do not save the clothing back to the library as cr2 files as this may affect the conforming of the clothing.
  • Sundress / Miniskirt / T-Shirt - Movement morphs (and body handles if needed) have been added to these clothing items to aid in adjusting them during posing, including sit morphs for the sundress that can also be used with the Pinup02 pose to avoid “tabs” that poke out or in.
  • Foot Pose - There are poses supplied to aid you in getting the feet positioned correctly when using the 4 inch and 6 inch pumps. After you've finished posing the figure (and injected all body morphs or just the footshape morph), you can use these poses to bend the Foot and Toes of the figure into the shape of the shoe and apply the “FootShape” morph on the BODY of the figure in order for the shoes to fit correctly.
  • If you use IK to assist you while posing, be sure to DISABLE it once you're done posing - using IK will put some restraints on certain body parts of the figure, but those restraints aren't applied as smoothly to conforming clothing, so the clothing can move around more causing poke-through.
  • Dynamic Clothing -
    • The Dynamic clothing is only usable in Poser 5 or higher.
    • Cloth must be parented to the Alexa 2 figure in Frame 1 of a multiple frame animation.
    • A2 must be zeroed at frame 1 (Default Pose), parent cloth to A2, then move to the last frame of your animation and pose the Alexa 2 character - not the cloth.
    • Clothify your clothing item, select Alexa2 as the the base to collide against, and run simulation.
    • When finished Poser will return to the end frame with the cloth draped around Alexa 2.
  • Miniskirt / T-Shirt - These two items were updated (from the original Alexa 1 items) by adding an “Alexa2” morph which can be found on the BODY of those items. This morph is 'set' by default, but Poser seems to reset it to zero when you conform the clothing to the figure. If you see a lot of hip poking out, you can either set this morph to 1.0 or set the “A2toA1” morph on the Alexa figure and use the bodyhandles to make final adjustments.
  • Skin Tones - Once you apply a skin texture, you will need to reapply any skin tone you may have applied previously.

Product Updates

  • New thumbnails for most items
  • Geometry and INJ directories renamed to CatBird
  • Toe pokethrough on heels fixed, updated OBJs added
  • Hip/thigh pokethrough on mini-skirt fixed, updated OBJ added
  • CR2 for 6“ heels updated to fix distortion which caused heel to move with the toe (thanks to Will Dupre for this fix and the pokethrough fixes)
  • Two pinup poses added
  • Catsuit, Shoe, and Hair MAT files moved to separate directories
  • Studio material presets added for default skin, eyes, and nails
  • Addition of material presets for default nails and red nails
  • Spelling corrections for morphs: Lenghten to Lengthen (for nails), LIpFull to LipFull, Styl to Style, etc.; renamed some readscripts for consistency
  • Redid all readscripts in the pose folder and many in the !CatBird directory to call FBM readscripts instead of individual readscripts
  • Removed duplicate morphs in Alexa CR2 that already existed in the readscripts and added new readscripts for morphs that were missing from the folders
  • Corrected a non-planar polygon on the top of each thumb (thanks again to Will Dupre)
  • Morphs and body handles added to the sundress, miniskirt, and t-shirt (thanks to OKCRandy)
  • Clothing made “super conforming” so that adjusting a morph on the figure automatically adjusts the clothing item (again, thanks to OKCRandy)

Product Notes

Alexa was originally released in 2003 as the flagship figure at 3D Commune then re-modeled and released as Alexa 2 in January of 2006. Alexa 2 had brand new geometry from top to bottom and included a morph allowing the original Alexa clothing to be used with her. In November of 2009, 3D Commune was forced to close its doors and Alexa 2 was purchased by CatBird Studios in order to keep her available to the community.

The following is from the 3D Commune readme for Alexa 2 …

  • Alexa 2 Rebuilders and Contributors on the 3DC Development Team
    • Overlord and “the buck stops here guy”: A1HostCoMark - 3DC Site Owner
    • Alexa 2 Mesh and Topology Re-Modleled in Silo, ZBrush, XSI and by PusGhetty, http://www.pusghetty.com (Michael A. Melnik), Head of 3D Development for 3DCommune.
    • A special thank you goes out to Michael for his wonderful work on Alexa. Michael is the Head of our 3D Development Team. Many more new and exciting items are coming from 3DCDev Team, keep your eyes peeled for more of Michael's and the rest of the team's work.Michael's task was to take the original Alexa character files minus the bad geometry and completely redo her from top to bottom. It was a daunting task on its own and he was also asked to keep a similar look as well as try to improve on her original design. Luckily for all of us he was up to the task.
    • Alexa 2 Project Coordination: Spanki http://www.skinprops.com (Keith Young), Final Project Organization and Market Release Coordinator.
    • Another special thanks goes out to Keith and his endless stream of knowledge on “what do we do now?” Keith's Poser, UV Mapper and Cinema4D chops were especially useful when trying to not lose previous work we had done. Keith came in when we were at a standstill with the development process, Michael had finished his work and it was up to the rest of the team to finish the remaining tasks. Keith helped organize us all and get the ball rolling again and not gathering any moss. Thanks to Keith and Everyone on the team, we're happy to bring Alexa 2 back into your runtime.
  • Development Team Members no longer working with us but still deserving many, many thanks
    • Jelisa - for always popping in when she could and working very fast!
    • BeyondVR for all his tireless UV, cr2, morph work, unfortunately almost all was lost including John.
    • LazarZag - where are you G? Not lost in the desert I hope.
    • Schlabber - Thank you Stephan for all your poses to work from.
  • Special Thanks to:
  • Beta testers: A1HostCoMark, PusGhetty, Spanki, Aine, Dorkati, frogdot, Fabi, Jelisa, TonyLynch, ExtremeThemes, GillsThemes, tdalka, pokeydots, cie,
