Product Notes

Bryce: The Fantasy Castle Companion File has been created in Bryce 5.5 and has been tested in Bryce 5.5c. Please refer to the Platinum Club forum thread for this file for information on generic Poser/Bryce import.

This file requires you have set your D|S installation to be able to access your Poser directories, should you have installed your Fantasy castle into a Poser Runtime.

Please note that for ease of editing, the terrain, rocks and water have been locked. You unlock them by selecting them in “Select Options” and unchecking the “Locked” attribute. Setup

This is going to be a big project, and I hope you'll have a good time doing it. Feel free to ask questions in the Bryce Companion File thread in the PC about it :-)

We're going to start with the Bridge and the Tower in the middle of the water:

  • Load the Fantasy Castle Bryce File (Fantasycastlebcf.br5) from your DAZ Companion files folder.
  • Click the DAZ|Studio button in the upper right of the screen.
  • Go to the DAZ Fantasy Castle folder, and load the TowerBridge. Because it loads in front of the camera, you won’t be able to see it with the default camera – but it is there.
  • Click the “Return to Bryce” button in the upper right corner.
  • The file will be loaded, fully textured, in Bryce.
  • Go to the Object menu, and select “Break DAZ|Studio Link”.
  • Open the Attributes editor (the little A in the menu that appears on screen when you select something) and set the following properties: (Origin and Position are locked by default, and you only need to enter numbers for Origin)

TowerBridge1
Origin: 138,72 10,85 130,44
Position: 138,72 10,85 130,44
Rotation: 0 -38 0
Size: 32,37 27,48 5,54

  • Click CTRL + D in order to duplicate the bridge, and give it the following attributes (you'll only need to edit the Origin attributes):

TowerBridge2
Origin: 114,72 10,85 111,44
Position 114,72 10,85 111,44
Rotation 0 -38 0

  • Click CTRL + D again, and set the following attributes:

Position 63,14 10,85 74,73
Rotation 0 -38 0

  • Click CTRL + D again, and set the following attributes:

Position 38,75 10,85 55,34
Rotation 0 -38 0
Size 32,37 27,48 5,54

  • Click CTRL + D again, and set the following attributes:

TowerBridge5
Origin 14,55 10,85 36,04
Position 14,55 10,85 36,04
Rotation 0 -38 0

This one is optional :

  • Click CTRL + D again, and set the following attributes:

Let's put the DrumTower in place, shall we?

  • Click the DAZ Studio button in the upper right of the screen.
  • Go to the DAZ Fantasy Castle folder, and load the DrumTower.
  • Click the “Return to Bryce” button in the upper right corner.

  • Open the Attributes editor and set the following parameters:

Position 87,79 43,09 95,88
Rotation 0 0 0
Size 43,99 106,81 39,5

No DrumTower is complete without a banner:

  • Click the DAZ Studio button in the upper right of the screen.
  • Go to the DAZ Fantasy Castle folder, and load the TowerFlag.
  • Click the “Return to Bryce” button in the upper right corner.
  • The file will be loaded, fully textured, in Bryce.
  • Go to the Object menu, and select “Break DAZ|Studio Link“.
  • Open the Attributes editor and set the following parameters:

Rotation 0 0 0
Size 19,08 21,62 1,5

Ok, on to the castle!

You may wonder why we're building only half a castle - it's because we want to make the scene as fast to render as possible, and since we can't see the other half of the castle (tower and walls) in the render, I've left them out.

  • Click the DAZ Studio button in the upper right of the screen
  • Go to the DAZ Fantasy Castle folder, and load the Wall_C.
  • The file will be loaded, fully textured, in Bryce.
  • Go to the Object menu, and select “Break DAZ|Studio Link”.
  • Open the Attributes editor (the little A in the menu that appears on screen when you select something) and set the following properties:

Wall_Corner1
Origin -144,35 105,64 375,25
Position -144,35 105,64 375,25
Rotation 0 -48,5 0
Size 61,40 69,76 47,45

  • Click CTRL + D, and set the following attributes:

Wall_Corner2
Origin -235,4 104,96 278,77
Position -235,4 104,96 278,77
Rotation 0 41,5 0
Size 61,40 69,76 47,45

  • Click CTRL + D again, and set the following attributes:

Wall_Corner3
Origin -327,15 106,10 365,45
Position -327,15 106,10 365,45
Rotation 0 50 0
Size 61,40 69,76 47,45

You'll have 3 Wall towers now. Time to add the long walls

  • Click the DAZ Studio button in the upper right of the screen.
  • Go to the DAZ Fantasy Castle folder, and load the Long Wall.
  • Click the “Return to Bryce” button in the upper right corner.
  • The file will be loaded, fully textured, in Bryce.
  • Go to the Object menu, and select “Break DAZ|Studio Link.
  • Open the Attributes editor and set the following parameters:

Long Wall1
Origin -182,84 96,15 311,55
Position -182,84 96,15 311,55
Rotation 0 -50 0
Size 105,19 51,22 15,29

  • Click CTRL + D, and set the following attributes:

  • Go to the Object menu, and select “Break DAZ|Studio Link”
  • Open the Attributes editor and set the following parameters:

Render!

Playing with the view:

Your scene is loaded with a default camera-view. Try clicking on any of the blue buttons to the left of the thumbnail renderer -they'll change your view settings

  • The first one is a view from afar from the water.
  • The second one is a misty pink close-up, perfect for knights galloping across the bridge or damsels awaiting their knights :-)

Tweak with the trackball for better custom results.

Scene Tips:

If you want to make the castle or the bridge look wet, i.e. when it's raining or when there is a lot of mist, do as follows, and refer to the image for reference:

  • Select the object you want to give a wetter look.
  • Click on the material editor (M or CTRL M).
  • Find the specularity settings in the Value field, and drop the little ball into the third column.
  • You'll see a texture comes up.
  • Click “P” in order to make it an image texture
  • Click on the Texture Source Editor button above the “P” in order to edit the texture.
  • Add the bumpmaps for the object
  • Close the texture editor.
  • Drag the specularity slider to a setting of your liking
  • If you want to see how it's done for real, take a look at the wet-looking rocks in the fil by selecting them - Just remember to unlock as explained in the beginning of the file.

Finally:

  • Please don't hesitate to ask any one of us for help in the Bryce or PC forum about the file :-)
