  • This collection of Poser figures includes The Wave Tool and 2 water scenes for it to work with.
  • Requirements:
    • Poser 5 or newer
    • DAZ Studio 2.1 or newer
    • This package uses large textures and high resolution meshes. A high end system is recommended.
    • The Poser version of the Dune Fence and Magic Fence contain Wriggle Easy Pose dials. These dials rely on a feature of Poser 7 and will not function in earlier versions of Poser.
  • Important: The Poser and Studio Versions of the Wave tool are not compatible. Even if you have both a scene created in Poser will not work in Studio. The way the two programs handle deformers (magnets) is different. However, poses created in Poser will work in Studio with some minor adjustments.
  • The Wave tool with Magic Magnets …
    • The wave tool allows you to create realistic waves in any high rez plane. The set comes with a large water disk that the magnets for the wave tool will lock on to.
    • Poser Version
      • Actually any prop or body part named “Water” will do. That's the Wave Tool's magic word. Just select that prop and load up the tool. The magnets will lock onto that prop. (Note the internal name must be “water” renaming it in Poser won't change that. It must be named correctly when imported into Poser)
      • First load the set with the water prop. This can be the Water Disk included with the Wave Tool, the Nerd3D Beach Set, or any other set that needs waves. Select the water and load a Wave Tool from the Library.
    • DAZ Studio Version
      • The deformers in the wave tool need to be connected to the connected to the water prop. First select the water part of the figure. Open the deformer tab and click on [Add Nodes … ] select the Curl, Trough and Swell deforms and click [Accept]. Now repeat this for the waveSetup part. If you are adding several waves to the water you can set them up all at once.
      • Once you have the wave tool loaded select it's control handle. You will see a triangle pointing at the center of the wave area. All of the wave's controls are grouped here for easy setup. Pick the Curl dial from the list and set it to about 75. Look! your first wave.
    • You've probably already noticed the sluggish posing. That could be a problem. The water has to be very high polygon to accept the distortions of the magnets. For posing there is a special low poly object in the scene to help with posing. The Wave Tool effects it to so for now hide the Water part by taking the check off of Visible in the Properties tab. The WaveSetup part should be visible. Make sure the Visible box is checked for it's properties. It will show as a long rectangle running the length of the scene.
    • DAZ Studio Version
      • You may want to apply the White-Out material to the Invisible material zone of the wave tool. This will make the handle visible in studio, and easier to select. If you make the handle visible, remember to hide the handle before rendering.
      • Please note that the Sky materials will not show in the preview window nor will they show in OpenGL renders. This set must be rendered in the 3Delight software renderer.
      • If you look at the scene from the side with one of the isometric cameras the wave form will be quite obvious. You may also want to switch the scene to Outlined View (Ctrl-2) so you can really see the shape of the wave.
  • Dune Fence with Magic Magnets …
    • If you've looked at real dune fences you've probably noticed that the sand tend to pile up around them. It would be impossible to setup morphs for that. And placing magnets by hand is no fun too. Problem solved with Nerd3D's Magic Magnets.
    • The Magic Magnet dune fence section is built with 3 attached magnets. These magnets are specially coded not to effect the fence, but to work on sand of the beach set. Just place the fence on the sand of the beach set, select the Body part of the fence and dial the sand depth to whatever looks good. If you move the fence the piled up sand move with it like magic.
    • DAZ Studio Version
      • The magnets for the fence need to be attached to the sand the same way as the wave is attached to the water with the D-Form tab.
  • Ray Traced Materials …
    • When you are doing close up shots you may want to use the ray traced materials for the water. They will take longer to render, but give much better realism. The included light sets all use ray traced shadows so remember to enable ray tracing in the render options. For just shadows the ray bounces can be set to 0, but if you use ray traced water it needs to be at least 4.
    • It may not be immediately obvious what the ray traced sand does. This material adds ray traced reflections to just the “wet” area of the beach. This is particularly good for low angle shots along the beach.
    • DAZ Studio Version
      • There are three special tiled materials for the sand in the beach set. These are for close in shots of the sand. They switch the UV maps on that part to be a tiling map and add a noise bump map the the sand. These won't look right on wide shots.
