A place of fairytales and mortal combat, wreathed in fragrant vines, minutely detailed and inspired by my own collection of Chinese antiques, enamels and objets d'art, the Imperial Retreat is a small tribute to one of the world's most extraordinary and ancient traditions of art and architecture.
