Product Information

Sci-fi or futuristic are such wide and varied terms, that's why we created this add-on for Tau Ceti Overseer to make it even more versatile and encompassing.

In here you will find:

Ultra Sci-fi: our vision of a new-age kind of future, with smooth and flowin lines and a very space traveller appeal. The main colors are white and orange together with clean insert lines. It has a practical elegance to it.

CyberPunk: as the name implies this is inspired by this much grittier and closer to Earth vision. Tau Ceti becomes more of practical armor for someone that is a street-smart agent that doesn't spend her time in the shiny headquarters of the city megacorp, but rather carries out the undercover ops.

The textures are rich with details and nice touches to embody the style they represent, with both uniqueness and recognizably and all of them sport awesome variants that add versatility and style (tip: remember to set your “Filtering Pixel & Pixel Filter Radius” at 0.50 or so to enjoy all the crispy details of the textures, especially in very close-up renders):

Additional Details

  • DISPLACEMENT(HEIGHT) vs NORMAL maps
    • - Displacement or Height maps change the very geometry shape and silhouette of the mesh, in Iray (and other engines such as Octane, for example) this is based on mesh density. What this means is that the higher the items density/polycount/subdivision the better the result, but also the heavier this is on your system.
    • By default MAT poses set the items resolution at 3, this is a decent parameter to have a good looking Height detail, however sometimes the smaller details are lost, so the MAT poses also apply the Normal map.
    • Technically this is not accurate, as both maps include the same kind of data, but as explained, it's a kind of trick to get as much detail as possible without the need to subdivide the items too much. (The Displacement details were painted/created in ZBrush where each item was subdivided to several million polygons).
  • NORMAL MAPs: if your system cannot handle the higher Geometry, you may want to just use the Normal maps.
    • Note that while they will look fairly all right, the very shape of the items will not change, so your character contours will look flatter than they should. However, you still get most of the detail and this can make a big product such as Tau Ceti Overseer manageable to be used in Iray even on older/slower machines.
  • 3DELIGHT displacement is not geometry-density based, so it will render very well even with no subdivision without the “added-Normal maps” trick.
