When the skies open up and unleash a drenching rain shower…you better grab your rain boots and umbrella quickly! It's time to get wet with this set for Iray and 3Delight that offers several props including rain planes, liquid ground with concentric circles, and splashes. You'll blend in your figures and props with the rain by using the three shaders for water drops, splashes, and wetness that you can add to geoshells or primitives.
Load the full set that measures 17×17 meters. If you need to increase scene size, just load more and align them horizontally or load only rain planes and stack them vertically. If you want confine the rain to a smaller space, such as a skylight, waterfall, there is a 1×1 meter prop set. If you want to add splashes to props and figures there is an individual splash. All prop sets use instances to save on computer resources and to allow easier surface adjustment when selecting items in the scene tab.
Lighting the set is simple. The rain even glows when lit from behind and has volumetric effects when there are props between your main light source and the rain. One key to achieving great renders is to use specular light with shadows turned off. Remember to use skydomes or large background props with 3Delight renders. This helps with creating realistic reflections and gives a nice solid background for the rain to render against. For faster renders, some 3Delight surfaces are optimized to ignore shadows and occlusion.
The height of the rain planes are adjusted by using the Z axis, not the group they are parented to.
