A Layout defines and manages the high-level building blocks of the interface. It is responsible for defining:

• Which Main Menu Bar and Menu configuration is used
• Which set of keyboard shortcuts should be used to execute Actions
• How many Tool Bars there are, what they are named and which Actions are in them
• How many Activities there are, what they are named and what order they appear in within the Activity Bar
• Whether or not the Activity Bar should be shown
• Whether the Tabs that are attached to Panes are oriented horizontally along the top, or vertically along the side nearest the Viewport when docked
• Whether or not the workflow_assistant should be enabled

The layout can be changed using the Select Layout... action.
