Handspan Studios Gem Shaders 1, Jewel Crafter- is a collection of 114 gem and metal Shader Presets for Daz Studio. It has 38 Metal and 76 realistic Gemstone and Shell Shaders based on 148 seamlessly tiling texture, bump and specularity maps. Shader textures are scalebale and can be applied to any model in the program, these are optimized for jewelry but can be scaled up for a wizard staff or jeweled sword hilt. The seamlessly repeating texture tiles and material setting values can also be used as a merchant resource for creating your own UV map textures.

Jewel Crafter has a wide range of exotic and fancy gem materials- sparkling drusy, gemmy natural crystals, gold flecked lapis, fiery opals, pearly shells, complex agates and jaspers plus many more. All carefully mapped to get as close to the properties of the real stones as possible. Faceted gem textures with deep rich colors, textured metals and bright diamonds. As an added bonus it also includes 3 simple, easy to render Light presets that I have used in the promo images.

All textures are seamlessly tiling and by repeating can fill an area of any size. As always I have tried for a balance between looking natural and seamless in tiling, high enough resolution to show quality details and reasonable in size for your rendering speed.

Additional Details

  • With a texturable object selected in your scene and also a material selected in the surfaces tab, click any Shader preset. If the texture seems too large or blurry adjustment is needed in scale. Change the U and V scale parameters by equal values (unless you want to make the texture look stretched in one direction or the other) until the texture looks the right size. Most start out at a value of 1.0 or 2.0, higher values will make the texture appear smaller and you will see the repeat more times. A value of less than one such as .50 will make the texture look larger and you will see about half of what is on the map etc. You can change these values as much as you like- if the texture repeats too many times it will start to look like digital noise, too few repeats will become blurry. The faceted gem textures while they do seamlessly repeat usually look best at a value of 1.0 or a fraction of 1 and applied to a model that looks faceted, like a crystal or faceted gem. The natural crystals like tourmaline, indicolite, kunzite and aquamarine look best mapped to a cylindrical or rectangular type crystal shape with the lines in the crystal going the long way, that is how they naturally form.
  • If you get the message “an error has occurred…” it is generally because you have either not selected the object in the Scene tab or not selected both the Object and the Material zone in the Actors, Wardrobe and Props> Surfaces> Editor tab before applying your preset.
  • The shader settings were optimized for the included light presets and should need little adjustment using those but under some of the stronger lights you may find you get too much glare. You can fix this by either turning down the light values on the light preset or turning down the glossiness or making the specular and/or reflection colors darker. Adjust the specular color value towards black and/or change the glossiness value. Glossiness is brighter with lower numbers but that also changes the spread of the reflection so I recommend doing it with specular color adjustment toward black if you can, in order to keep the look as close as possible to the original. Reflection color won't have much effect unless there is a reflection map in which case adjust as you would the specular color, darker values will be less shiny. Some of the gems have a value in the ambient so if is glowing too much (happens against a darker background sometimes) try reducing this closer to black.
  • The seamlessly repeating texture tiles and material setting values can also be used as a merchant resource for creating your own UV map textures for sale. Please do not redistribute the textures in their original tiling form or make other merchant resources from them.
