Additional Details

  • To use shader presets be sure that you have both the object and the surface on that object that you want the preset applied to in the scene. The simplest way to do that is to use the surface selection tool (looks like 3 little cards and an arrow) to select where you want the shader preset applied. Double click on the icon for the preset you want to use and it will apply to the surface.
  • All of the shader presets are somewhat variable depending on the level and type of light used in the scene. However, the satin is the one most prone to over lighting. It also looks best on fabric with folds rather than large smooth areas. and you may get unexpected results depending on the variables in the scene.
  • Best practice with these presets is to apply the base fabric to the surface first and then transparency if your going to use it. Transparency will work with either cotton or silk. Then you can then apply the tiling to get the fabric the correct “size” for the object it is on.
  • Silks respond best to lighting that has at least some direct element and so you may not get the ideal effect if you use them in scenes lit entirely by HDR lighting. I have included 2 bonus lights for you to use and look at to see how I lit two of my scenes.
  • Bonus lights use two parts. One part will add the lights and the second will add the HDR light and give you the proper render settings for the lights. Lights are parented to and aimed at a light focus that is a primitive. If you want to move the lights select light focus and move or rotate it. Moving the lights forward or back will alter how much light they cast on your character so be careful with that. If you change lights be sure to delete the focus and it will delete all the lights.
