Product Information

  • Required Products: None

Body of Light loads almost 200 lights directly to Genesis 3 or Genesis 2 figures. The lights are divided up from head to toe and are parented to each major body part. This means the lights move with the figure in any pose and will encompass hair, clothing, accessories, props, and anything close to the figure. There are 31 presets that fit Genesis 3 Male and Genesis 3 Female, 7 for Genesis 2 Male and Genesis 2 Female. For close-up portrait renders, nearly 200 lights are parented to the head only and cast light over the shoulders, back and chest.

Choose from a brilliant array of color combinations to express the emotion in your story. Body of Light includes multi-color presets (several full spectrum), two color presets (primary and tertiary), and several neutral presets that bring out your figures translucency colors.

Body of Light will create a “glow from within” with figures and clothing, especially when converting materials to surfaces such as frosted glass or wax. The cast light will extend several feet away from the figure for most presets. You will experience average render times generally, but may finish much faster when using Body of Light presets only.

Since light geometry makes all surfaces glow regardless of opacity maps, it is recommended to own Genesis 3 Head Morphs in order to hide eyelashes. A utility preset is included to access this morph quickly.

Instructions included. See the ReadMe for technical info and check out the forum commercial thread for product discussions.

Additional Details

  • Product Notes: Body of Light
  • Load light presets with figure selected.
  • To brighten surfaces that are hit with light, remove diffuse maps or increase the intensity of the lights. For more saturated color on skin, a shader is included to lighten transparency and/or translucency color. Make sure to select skin and lips first in the surfaces tab. If rendering figures with lipstick you may leave lips as they are for a more dramatic effect. Converting surfaces to wax, resin, frosted glass, or other surface that allows subsurface scattering will have a dramatic effect of light glowing from within.
  • To change all lights at once, select one light in the working viewport, or scene tab, then right click on the light in scene tab and choose “select all lights”. Deselect the lights you do not want edited, lights for the rest of your scene for instance. Then adjust brightness, color, etc. to your preferences using AuxViewPort to check results. By right clicking on the light in scene tab and choosing “select all lights“, you can delete the lights and try another preset. Or you can use [drop down menu] Edit/Delete all lights. As these lights are parented to major body parts, these methods are much easier and faster than selecting lights individually. To edit the lights for a whole limb you can select the base of that limb in scene tab, then right click “select all children”.
  • Edits to the lights are made in Parameters Tab. In “light geometry” you can change to sphere, disk, etc. and the “render emitter” in parameters tab will show/hide the light geometry. When changing light geometry, the lumens may need to be adjusted to retain same brightness.
  • Experiment with using geoshells (opacity at 0) for sharper lines and shapes of color. Also, once your figure is posed and lights loaded, try (select all) grouping the lights so that you can move them independently of the body. This idea works well for rim lighting if you move the group behind your figure. Body Of Light Works best In low to medium light situations. Multiple presets can be added to a single figure.
  • As of Daz Studio version 4.9.2.70 light geometry will show in cast shadows, volumetric props, and reflections regardless of whether “render emitter” is on or off. This means that most Body Of Light presets will not allow outside light sources to hit the body unless lights are deleted or moved.
  • Certain presets will also negate opacity/alpha masks, the whole surface will glow white. So a preset is included to hide eyelashes and Genesis 3 Head morphs is required. A utility preset is included to access this morph quickly.
