Product Information

  • Required Products: None

This cloud set for Iray and 3Delight includes two complete scenes representing day time and full moon lighting. Each pre-assembled scene has unique materials, background, and lighting to match the time of day. Camera and all props are included with this set. If you want to build your own scene, load individual cloud props, compose your figures and props, and then apply the material for either 3Delight or Iray. Included cloud types are cumulonimbus, cumulus, and a group of 10 cirrus for a total of 11 props.

Material presets assist in adjusting cloud transparency. The closer to the camera the more transparent they should be, with the farthest clouds using the opaque preset. Because these are 3D sculpted clouds that can be rendered from any angle and will automatically change color to match the lights used in your scene. There is no need to change the cloud color unless a specific effect is wanted.

Instructions are included on how to best use these props and change surfaces beyond the presets. The ReadMe can be accessed through the 3D Toon Clouds commercial thread in the forum, Smart Content, or the DIM.

Additional Details

  • For Iray and 3Delight:
    • Load individual cloud props (or a cloud scene), your other props and figures, then compose as usual. Use AuxViewport to check lighting. Apply the surface materials for 3Delight or Iray unless you used a pre-loaded scene. Then customize the surface of the clouds by using the included presets or manually adjust. In general, apply the least dense materials to clouds that are closest to the camera and the densest to the ones furthest away, graduating the density in between using presets or manually adjust. If any of the clouds are hard to see in the main viewport, you can switch the draw style to wire texture shaded or apply the opaque surface until it’s positioned.
  • For 3Delight:
    • Depending on your scene elements and computer setup, you may experience extended render times while using UberEnvironment2 lighting (included) and “Accept Shadows” at the same time. Optimized lights (without UE2) are also included in order to speed up your renders.
    • A little experimenting will give you a clearer picture on how scaling down the cloud prop affects the cloud texture (lacunarity). Adjust the scale setting in surfaces tab.
    • For occlusion in 3Delight you will experience faster renders using Age Of Armours advanced ambient light (https://www.daz3d.com/advanced-ambient-light). It can be utilized to exclude cloud surfaces that you don’t want lit for occlusion, instead of using UberEnvironment2.
    • The cloud prop is very sensitive to light, especially specular light. If using lights other than the ones included, you may need to turn them down a bit.
  • For Iray:
