Additional Details

General Morph Types:

The parts of this product load with a selection of morphs and control dials for the skirt, armdrapes and ribbons designed to help you with fitting it. The morph categories are as follows:

  • Adjustments: Alter shape and fit of a piece.
  • Movements: Contains dials for posing
  • Styles: Contains shaping morphs
  • Controls: Controls movement and size of the separate outfit parts.
  • Hide-Show: Contains options to hide or show individual parts

Avija Wings and Tail:

Inspired by the natural world, these modular wings and tail were designed to work as geograft figures for the Genesis 8 Female and Male figures. These can be found in their respective figure folders (People/Genesis 8 Female or People/Genesis 8 Male) under Anatomy/Arki/Avija). Also included are independent wing and tail figures which can be parented to almost any figure imaginable. You will find these in their own Props folder unter Arki/Avija.

All of these figures are also provided as combined wearable presets or scene subsets which load all the needed parts together. Provided are presets for wings and tail together or just the individual wing and tail setups.

They all include the main wing and tail figures with all their feather appendages plus the geoshell addons which create the layers of down feathers and he transition between wing/tail and the body of the Genesis figure.

When working with Avija, you can also follow the hints provided through the info popups in the fiigure, props and material folders.

Please note that the wing and tail models are highly detailed and complex assets with overlapping layers of feathers. Some poses and shapes may cause clipping between the different feather layers.

Working with the Wings and Tail:

The wings and tail models are highly detailed assets with multiple parts and several geoshell additions for down feather coverage and transition zones. This level of detail means that they can be cumbersome to work with.

One way to speed up rendering and previews is to use the props wings and tail in the Props folder. Those need to be parented to a figure's chest and pelvis regions, so the can follow the posing of the figure. You can also adjust the positioning of the wing and tail bases by using the control dials in the props. They are located under Actor/Controls in each prop.

You can also remove parts of the wings and tail setup when you are setting up a scene. The front and back feathers of the wings and the tail feathers plus down parts of both wings and tail can be removed or hidden and later loaded into the scene again. Another way to make working with wings and tail easier is to disable smoothing on wings and tail.

See below for details on this approach.

Copying Materials for Wings and Tail:

To create a smooth transition between the wings, tail and the humanoid body of your figure, follow the steps below (example used here is Genesis 8 Female with matching wings and tail – see details at the end of this subsection on how to proceed with Genesis 8.1 Female):

  • Step 1: First select the Genesis figure in your scene and select the “Torso” material. Right-click on it and select “Copy Selected Surface(s)”.
  • Step 2: Select the wings in your scene tab and navigate to toe “Torso” material. Right-click on it and select “Paste to Selected Surface(2)”.
  • Step 3: Now enter the key word uv in the search window of the surface tab. In the pulldown menu, select “G8F Base” as UV set.
  • Repeat this step with the tail figure if needed.

When using Genesis 8.1 the surfaces are named differently, and there is an additional surface called “Head” which also needs to be copied to the wings. See the listing below on which material needs to be copied to which wing/tail surface:

  • Genesis 8 “Torso” → Wings “Torso” (G8 UVs) and Tail “Torso” (G8 UVs)
  • Genesis 8.1 “Body” → Wings “Torso” (G8.1 UVs) and Tail “Torso” (G8 UVs)
  • Genesis 8.1 “Head” → Wings “Head” (G8.1 UVs)

The Shapes and Movements:

The wing and tail figures include a couple of shape presets, inspired by the wing and tail shapers of real living bird species.

The movements give you an easy starting point for poses of the wings. Simple base presets for different flight modes or folding up are provided alongside with basic movements of indivdual parts of the wings and tail.

The Inner Feather Layers:

Some of the wing presets utilize a special geoshell to apply materials to the insides of the wing primaries and secondaries and the tail feathers.

You may find some clipping of these geoshells when the wings and tail are rendered from the back.

In this case, simply raise the Offset Distance of the Wings Inner Feathers Shell and the Tail Underfeathers Shell. You can find this parameter in the Parameters tab under Mesh Offset.

The Utilities:

In the “Utilities” folder of the male and female version of the wings you'll find a couple of tools which will make working with the wings easier.

You can, for example, speed up preview and rendering in Daz Studio by disabling the smoothing option in wings and tail. To do so, select all the parts you want to switch of smoothing on in the scene tab, and then click on the “Disable Smoothing” icon in the utilities folder. After this, you should experience a considerable speeding up in rendering and previews in the document window.

You can switch smoothing back on after you have finalized the scene, simply by repeating said process above and clicking on the “Enable Smoothing” icon.

There is no need to disable smoothing in the feathered appendages or geoshells. Just using this utility on the wings and tail figure in your scene will do the trick.
