Product Information

  • Required Products: None

Sliver of Light is a quick and simple way to add dramatic lighting to your scenes. It functions like a slide projector, featuring a finely tuned spotlight and a flat image plane with specific surface settings. Imagine a door cracked open, sci-fi scanners, sunlight filtering through blinds, sunrise through a window, peering through a keyhole, and various color combinations. Additionally, several gradients replicate the effects of light passing through roll-up doors, opened boxes, and alien sunsets.

The settings of the spotlight, plane, and the distance between them are precise. Four scaled presets of the light and prop are included to facilitate quick setup for architecture, portraits, whole figures, and confined spaces.

These presets work best in low-light scenes. You can use several presets at once.

Additional Details

  • Adjust the projection scale by using the SOL preset that fits your scene. There are presets, with specific adjustments) for Architecture (the largest) Figures, Confined Spaces, and Portraits (the smallest). Change materials with the SOL prop selected. By looking and rendering through the SOL Spotlight, you can get more specific about where the projection lands.
  • Another way to change the scale of the projection is to transition the SOL spotlight (with parented prop) so that they’re closer to your subject, to make the projection smaller, or to move the SOL light and prop further away to increase scale.
  • Adjusting the spread angle of the SOL spotlight without adjusting the scale of the prop will either reduce how much of the projected image shows (A lower spread angle) or the light will spill over the edge of the prop (a larger spread angle)
  • The light color can be tinted by adjusting the color of the spotlight/temperature or adjusting the surface of the prop (this surface channel is labeled so it’s easy to find). Changing the color of the SOL spotlight might produce more predictable results.
  • The hardness of the projected image can be adjusted by changing the light geometry (a sphere set to diameter 5 for example). By default the light geometry is point to produce the sharpest image.
